Recovery Funding Win for Rainbow Beach

Gympie Regional Council made submissions under two categories of the Disaster Recovery Funding Arrangements (DRFA) as part of an exceptional circumstances package of measures jointly agreed and funded by the Australian and Queensland governments to assist in recovery following Tropical Cyclone Alfred and Associated Weather, 1 March-16 March 2025.

Under the Community Recreational Asset Recovery Package, several applications were made with approved projects for Rainbow Beach being $927,000 for stormwater management and erosion repairs at the Phil Rogers Park viewing platform and $37,000 to replace beach access for pedestrians and surf lifesaving vehicles.

Two additional projects remain under assessment for erosion repairs at the Rainbow Beach ‘Rainbow Stairs’ and replacement of two buoy lines.

Council also submitted applications under the Environmental Recovery Package however due to the program being heavily oversubscribed, only one project was approved which was $240,000 for reinstatement of dunes at the Rainbow Beach Bathing Reserve.

This funding represents a significant investment in protecting Rainbow Beach’s coastline, restoring vital community infrastructure, and strengthening the area’s resilience against future weather events.

For residents, visitors, and local surf lifesaving services, these works will help ensure safer access, improved environmental outcomes, and the long-term preservation of one of the region’s most valued coastal destinations.
