Top Tourism Towns Announced

Winners have been revealed for Queensland’s hotly contested Top Tourism Town, with 37 outstanding finalists from across the state competing for the top award. The Awards hosted by the Queensland Tourism Industry Council (QTIC) recognise and celebrate towns that excel in providing an outstanding visitor experience.

Noosa takes the win for the Top Tourism Town Award (population over 5000) while Agnes Water comes out on top of its rivals earning the Top Small Tourism Town Award (population under 5000).
QTIC Chief Executive, Daniel Gschwind, said it is timely to shine a light on the diverse regional destinations Queensland has especially during the events of COVID.

“With international travel restrictions, this is the ideal time to put the spotlight on domestic tourism and draw attention to the fantastic regional destinations our state boasts,” Mr Gschwind said.
“For many of our Queensland operators, last year’s events had a serious impact on their businesses, and these Awards are a reflection of the resilience and resourcefulness of those in the industry.

“This year’s entrants showcase the extraordinary dedication and innovation of tourism operators across the state – all of whom are helping the Queensland tourism industry thrive during this time.”

The Award judges also noted the impressive submissions of two other finalists, recognising Airlie Beach and Yeppoon with Judges Commendations.

Noosa will receive a $25,000 Strategic Consulting and Capacity Building Package provided by EarthCheck and Agnes Water will receive a $7,500 Tourism Consultancy and Development Package provided by The Tourism Group.

The two Queensland winners will be in the running for Australia’s Top Tourism Awards, which will be announced in Canberra in late August.
