Nature’s Calling! Answer It With Tech In The Field

This March, the bush, beach, and wetlands around Rainbow Beach will become a working field site as Cooloola Coastcare launches its first Tech in the Field BioBlitz. 

Running from 27-29 March 2026, the three-day event is designed for people who want to strengthen their field skills and learn how environmental technology is applied in real surveys.

Each day combines short, practical workshops with time in the field. Participants will learn how tools such as mapping apps, GPS, wildlife cameras, acoustic recorders, and digital species ID platforms are used in ecological monitoring (and more!), then head straight out to apply those methods across forests, wetlands, and coastal habitats. 

The focus is on workflow: selecting survey sites, deploying equipment, recording observations, geolocating data, and producing information that can support monitoring and management.

The Cooloola Coast supports remarkable ecological diversity, and good data is essential for tracking change and guiding management. This BioBlitz offers a chance to contribute to the local environment while building skills you can apply to your own projects, studies, or personal interest.

The event is suited to scientists, land managers, ecological/enviro students, and keen naturalists who want to refine their field toolkit. You don’t need to be an expert, just ready to get outdoors, work in a team, and get hands on with field tech.
