Rainbow Beach P&C News June 2026
Melissa Spanton, Rainbow Beach State School P&C
As we pass the halfway mark of Term 2, students have settled well into their learning and are already demonstrating a strong understanding of new concepts and skills.
We have also welcomed several new students this term and, as always, we are incredibly proud of the way our existing students have welcomed them and have helped them to form friendships across all year levels.
Rugby League Development
We started the term hosting a Broncos Rugby League Development session led by former professional players Darren Burns and Jack Reed. The visit kicked off with engaging drills and skill-building activities for students, providing hands-on learning and plenty of fun.
Students practised passing techniques, scoring tries, teamwork, coordination, balance, and other important movement skills through a range of interactive games and activities. The sessions encouraged students to work collaboratively and effectively communicate with their teammates, all while building confidence and being active.
Darren and Jack shared their expertise and encouraged everyone to participate enthusiastically, helping students refine their rugby league techniques while promoting teamwork and sportsmanship.
In addition to the practical sessions, Darren and Jack took time to speak with senior students about the importance of goal setting, drawing from their own experiences both on and off the field.
Their inspiring talk emphasised the value of persistence, planning, and self-belief in achieving personal and academic goals.
It was a memorable day that left everyone motivated and excited for the term ahead. It was wonderful to see everyone joining in enthusiastically, supporting one another, and showing great sportsmanship throughout the activities.
We would like to thank Darren Burns and Jack Reed for providing such an amazing experience for our students this term.

The recent Broncos Rugby League Development day was a memorable experience for all.
ANZAC Day
Each year, our Year 6 students participate in the ANZAC Day writing competition. This year’s theme focused on animals in war, and we received several high-quality entries.
The winning piece was written by Nate Parkinson and explored the important role of donkeys in wartime.
Nate presented his informative text at the community ANZAC Day service, where he spoke confidently in front of a large audience. Congratulations Nate on winning the annual ANZAC Day writing competition — a fantastic achievement!
Cross Country
Following the Cross Country from Term 1, a group of Rainbow Beach State School students qualified to compete in the Gympie District Cross Country. The students travelled to Gympie for the event.
The day was filled with excitement and determination as our students tackled the course, representing our school with pride and enthusiasm. Their effort and sportsmanship were on display, making us all very proud.
We are especially thrilled to announce that Finnigan Nelson and Owen Dargusch, both from Year 5, have been selected to compete at the upcoming Wide Bay Trials, a fantastic achievement that highlights their dedication and skill.
Congratulations to both boys - your hard work has paid off, and we wish you the very best of luck as you take on this exciting next challenge!
Congratulations to all the students who participated and represented our school. We are very proud of your efforts and great sportsmanship.
Mother's Day
Term 2 also celebrates Mother’s Day. It is a time to celebrate all our special mothers and carers and recognise and appreciate all their dedication, care and support of our children.
This year, the P&C organised a creative photo booth where students created photographic keepsakes. Students had a wonderful time dressing up for photos and decorating their frames.
In addition, Mrs Dargusch kindly visited to guide our Year 4/5/6 students in creating a pair of earrings as a special gift. The students did a fantastic job, and many mothers were pleasantly surprised by their thoughtful creations.
A huge thank you to the P&C and to Mrs Dargusch for generously donating your time, effort, and creativity to help students create such meaningful gifts.
