Welcome back to Term 2! The children have been buzzing with excitement and have been eager to share tales of their holiday adventures. By all accounts, it seems everyone had a fantastic break and has returned refreshed and ready for another action-packed term of learning and activities.
At the end of last term, we held our annual cross country where our 2 sports teams, K’Gari and Cooloola, ran it out for the first bragging rights of the year. The competition was tight with all participants trying their best. The races ranged from a lap around the oval with an obstacle course for our youngest students up to 3km for our upper grades.
For anyone not sure what 3km in our school grounds looks like, it consists of 3 laps starting on the oval, heading into the bush and following the fenceline around the perimeter of the school, before looping behind the schoolhouse and crossing the finish line on the oval again.
We would like to congratulate all students on their participation, amazing effort and above all fantastic sportsmanship. As for the winning team, it was incredibly close with only 9 points in it…congratulations to Cooloola!
It wouldn’t have been the end of Term 1 without the annual East Bonnet parade. The children never cease to amaze us at the efforts that are put into the wild, wacky and spectacular creations.
There was a lot to keep us entertained as the students paraded around showing off their designs. There were bunnies, chickens and eggs galore, and we can’t forget to mention that Spider Man, Kung Fu Bunny, and even a pelican made an appearance too.
Thank you to the families who encourage and support the creation of these hats, it is truly wonderful!
To finish the term, the Year 4/5/6 students set off on a 13km hike to Double Island Point. They slapped on sunscreen and sprayed insect repellent from head to toe and set off on their adventure. They began their hike at the Carlo Sandblow and then joined the Double Island Point Walk and trekked the sandy trail that hugs the coastline.
The walk was challenging but all students gave it their all. There was lots of laughter, and encouragement heard along the way and perhaps the occasional blister too. Upon arriving at Double Island Point the students were able to cool off with a swim in the lagoon and re-energize with some lunch.
They were then transported to the Freshwater Campground where they set up camp and enjoyed an afternoon of games before burgers for dinner. Just when you might expect a sleep-in, most students were up early and ready for the next day’s adventures! The day began with brekky before packing up the camp.
A big thank you to Epic Ocean Adventures who then picked everyone up and took the students on a surfing and kayak lesson at DI. All students thoroughly enjoyed the experience, and it was amazing to see the encouragement they showed one another, along with the determination and courage to try something not all had tried before.
It was an action-packed camp and the students returned with stronger friendships and a new appreciation for our beautiful environment. Thank you to everyone who contributed, both in the lead up to and during the camp, it would not have been possible without you!
It wasn’t just the 4/5/6’s that got all the end of term fun – whilst they were away the rest of the school was treated to a visit from our local firefighters!
The truck's arrival drew plenty of excitement as the students were captivated by the flashing lights. After an information session about the important services our fire crews provide to the community and what to do in an emergency, students then headed to the oval to explore the truck and learn what all the lights, hoses and buttons do.
The highlight of the visit was taking turns in using the hose (and giving the oval a good watering!). It certainly took plenty of muscles to hold the hose! A huge thank you to our local firefighting crews for all you do for our community and taking time from your day to pay our school a special visit and give our students such a memorable experience.

Celebrating 40 Years of Rainbow Beach State School
This year marks a remarkable milestone for Rainbow Beach State School as we proudly celebrate 40 years of learning, growth, and community spirit.
Since opening its doors in 1986, our school has grown from humble beginnings into a vibrant hub, at the heart of our coastal town. Over the past four decades, generations of families have walked through our gates, forging lifelong friendships and contributing to a rich tapestry of memories and achievements.
Central to our school's success is the enduring connection we share with the Rainbow Beach community. Parents, carers, local groups, and dedicated volunteers have always rallied behind our students and staff, embodying the true spirit of mateship and support.
Whether helping at school events, or cheering on at sports carnivals, our community’s involvement has been the cornerstone of our positive and inclusive environment.
Our proud tradition of caring for every student is the foundation of who we are. Teachers and staff are committed to nurturing each child’s academic and personal development, ensuring every student feels safe, valued, and encouraged to reach their full potential.
This dedication has fostered a culture where respect, kindness, and resilience are championed every day.
As we reflect on the past 40 years, we celebrate not only our achievements, but also the strong bonds that make Rainbow Beach State School a special place to learn and grow. We look forward to continuing our tradition of excellence, caring, and community partnership for many years to come.
Thank you to everyone, past and present, who has played a part in our school’s journey.
To celebrate this milestone, we're offering school community members the chance to purchase a commemorative engraved paver. We plan to expand on our 25th anniversary pavers by creating a new lap of contrasting coloured pavers, available for purchase by both past and present families and community members.
At this stage, we are seeking expressions of interest to help gauge how many families may wish to be involved. If this is something your family would like to be part of, we would love to hear from you. You can call us directly on 5486 9333 or email the school at admin@rainbowbeachss.eq.edu.au.
