Tin Can Bay P-10 State School News May 2026
Tin Can Bay School Cross Country
In Week 9, students from Prep to Year 10 laced up their running shoes for the annual Cross Country event.
The course wound through our beautiful bushland and surrounding areas, providing a challenging yet rewarding experience. Despite muddy conditions, students of all ages showed incredible determination and enthusiasm.
Our Prep to Year 2 students enjoyed an action-packed obstacle course featuring tunnels, cones, and hoops. There were plenty of smiles and laughter as students climbed, balanced, ran, and jumped their way through each challenge.
A wonderful crowd of parents, carers, and family members gathered to support the event, cheering on runners as they pushed towards the finish line. Every participant contributed valuable house points, demonstrating outstanding sportsmanship and perseverance.

Recreation For Health
Our Year 9/10 Outdoor Recreation students have been enjoying an exciting and diverse program this past term. Golf is just one of several activities the group has experienced recently.
Throughout the term, students have also participated in dragon boating, archery, and lawn bowls, giving them the opportunity to build new skills and confidence across a variety of settings.
Each activity has encouraged teamwork, resilience, and a willingness to step outside their comfort zones. It has been fantastic to see students actively engaging in these experiences and supporting one another.
The Outdoor Recreation program continues to provide valuable opportunities for students to stay active, explore new interests, and enjoy learning beyond the classroom.

Year 6 Hike
The Tin Can Bay State School annual Year 6 Hike was once again a great success, providing students with both a rewarding challenge and an unforgettable outdoor experience.
Taking on a challenging section of the Great Sandy Walk, students were pushed beyond their comfort zones, building resilience, teamwork, and confidence along the way.
A highlight of this year’s hike was the addition of Epic Ocean Adventures to the itinerary. This exciting experience gave students valuable time to bond as a group before heading into the surf, creating lasting memories both on land and in the water.
The Freshwater Campground proved to be full of surprises, with a thriving goanna population keeping students on their toes! One important lesson learned - always zip up your tent when camping in our National Parks!
A huge thank you goes to our dedicated staff, generous volunteers, and supportive P&C for their time, effort, and contributions. We also extend our gratitude to Woolworths for kindly donating fruit for the trip.
Well done, Year 6, on a fantastic achievement!

L-R: Sophia enjoyed the surfing challenge; Tawne and Morgan enjoyed canoeing with Epic Ocean Adventures; The Year 6 group on celebrate their achievement.

This year, our GSA students have been engaging in a rich and varied program designed to support both their academic growth and real-world skills.
Alongside their individualised literacy and numeracy studies, students are participating in Food Specialisation, Practical Science, Humanities, and a Physical Resilience program. These subjects provide valuable opportunities for hands-on learning, critical thinking, and personal development.
A highlight of the program has been the strong focus on community engagement. Students have been actively working alongside local organisations, including the QCWA, Cooloola CoastCare, the RSL, and other community partners.
These experiences allow students to build meaningful connections, develop a sense of responsibility, and contribute positively to their local community. It has been wonderful to see students growing in confidence as they apply their learning in authentic contexts.
The GSA program continues to provide a supportive and engaging environment, preparing students with important life skills for their future pathways.
